2023: Lenovo bought FCNT
On September 29, 2023, Lenovo announced an agreement to acquire the assets of FCNT (formerly a division of Fujitsu), a company that manufactures smartphones under the Arrows and Rakuraku brands in Japan. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is said that it will help the Chinese Lenovo in further strengthening its position in the Japanese mobile market.
In 2016, amid increased competition in the smartphone market, Fujitsu formed a 100% subsidiary of Fujitsu Connected Technologies, whose tasks included the development of the mobile business. In January 2018, Fujitsu announced the transfer of shares in Fujitsu Connected Technologies to the Japanese investment fund Polaris Capital Group. And on April 1, 2021, the name of Fujitsu Connected Technologies was changed to FCNT, and this company became a subsidiary of Polaris Group.
As part of the agreement reached, a new company was formed as part of Lenovo Group, which was named FCNT. It is noted that it will continue to work under the previous brands, that is, Lenovo intends to continue to develop the Arrows and Rakuraku product families. The company will develop new devices, sell and maintain FCNT products. In parallel, the development of the Motorola brand will continue.
The deal builds on Lenovo's decades-old legacy and its commitment to Japan as one of the most important business markets in the world, where the group already holds a leading position in the personal computer segment, the Chinese company said in an official statement. |
In addition to developing Think-branded products in Japan, Lenovo invests heavily in R&D in the country, innovation and service centers. FCNT's business is expected to help Lenovo accelerate growth in the Japanese smartphone market.[1]
