2023: Dissolution of most of the unit after failed projects

On November 13, 2023, Amazon announced a further reorganization of Amazon Games' gaming division. As part of this initiative, some projects will be curtailed, and the number of personnel will decrease.

Amazon Games President Christoph Hartmann announced the change in organizational structure. According to him, in the current market situation, the company needs to focus its efforts on those areas that have the greatest potential for business development. In April 2023, Amazon cut about 100 jobs in the gaming division, but these measures were not enough. Therefore, Amazon Games will be reduced by about 180 more employees. Dismissed workers will receive comprehensive support, including severance pay, assistance in employment in a new place, health insurance payments, etc.

Amazon Games' goal is to become one of the leading creators of high-quality gaming content that will delight players for years to come. After the initial restructuring in April [2023], it became clear that more measures were needed to optimize resources. It is always unpleasant to say goodbye to colleagues. This decision is not hasty - this is the result of careful planning of our future, says Hartmann.

As part of the reorganization, Amazon Games is closing two areas - the Crown Twitch channel and the Game Growth program, which helped developers promote their games. At the same time, the company intends to reorient its efforts to Prime Gaming. Hartmann stressed that as new game projects develop, internal studios are "actively recruiting" specialists for other positions. Among the priority gaming initiatives are named Throne and Liberty, Blue Protocol, Tomb Raider and The Lord of the Rings.^[1]
