History
2021: Bill Gates and George Soros bought Mologic for $41 million
July 20, 2021 it became known that billionaires Bill Gates and George Soros took part in the deal to acquire Mologic for $41 million. Some of the richest people on Earth are trying to increase access to affordable modern medical technologies around the world.
Soros Economic Development Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announce launch of new Health in Global Access initiative (Global Access Health, GAH) aims to increase the global spread of medical technologies and the subsequent acquisition of Mologic - this company is best known for the technology used to conduct COVID-19 express tests, and it can also be used for dengue tests, bilharsia and river blindness.
According to the Financial Times, express tests allow for early screening for COVID-19 and are used worldwide to reopen stores, bars, sporting events and other workplaces. In the UK, coronavirus tests must be confirmed by a repeated test before COVID-19 is officially diagnosed to a sick person.
As a result of the acquisition, Mologic will be renamed Global Access Health. The deal will allow it to reinvest its profits to help combat gaps in providing global diagnostics in low-income regions where profit-oriented businesses have failed to meet social challenges.
Mologic has previously collaborated with Gates' philanthropic division. In 2016, Mologic founded the Center for Advanced Express Diagnostics (CARD) with the support of a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, focusing on reducing the cost of express delivery of medical services.[1][2]
