Drizly is the American delivery service of alcoholic beverages both from large, and from local producers.

History

2021: Uber purchased Drizly for $1.1 billion

At the beginning of February, 2021 Uber announced purchase of online store of the Drizly alcoholic beverages. The cost of the transaction is $1.1 billion. After merge Drizly will become division of Uber, and delivery of its goods will be available through delivery service of food Uber Eats. At this Drizly will also save the online store and proprietary mobile application.

The Drizly company founded in 2012 as of the beginning of February of the 2020th works in 1400 cities of the USA. Against the background of a pandemic of COVID-19 of sale of the company in 2020 grew by more than 300%. It is expected that the transaction will be closed in the first half of 2021. Uber it generally intends to pay off shareholders of Drizly with own actions (up to 90% of purchase), and the rest will be paid by cash.

The last eight years Drizly spent for creation of infrastructure, technologies and partnership which allow consumers to make purchases without thinking. We are very glad to join a command of Uber whose platform will accelerate Drizly performance of the mission — the cofounder and the CEO of the company Cory Rellas commented on the transaction.

The transaction with Uber will allow the companies trading through Drizly to expand the audience, and consumers will be able to use programs of loyalty and subscriptions of Uber. In the long term Uber is going to scale Drizly and to make service international.

At the same time Uber got rid of some of the most expensive transport segments. In May, 2020 the company sold to Lime the business on production of electric bicycles and Jump scooters, and in December sold to Uber the division on production unmanned vehicles Advanced Technologies Group of the beginning company Aurora Innovation, having estimated ATG approximately at $4 billion[1]
