2025: SoftBank bought Ampere Computing for $6.5 billion
Japan's SoftBank Group Corp. buys American chip developer Ampere Computing for 973 billion yen ($6.5 billion). This was announced in March 2025 in a press release from SoftBank Group. The deal was approved by the board of directors of the Japanese company, but still needs to be approved by regulators. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2025. Ampere will retain its name and become a 100% division of SoftBank. Financing the purchase will take place by raising a loan from Mizuho Bank[1]
