2021: Creating a Company
At the end of July 2021, Alphabet, Google's parent company, created a new subsidiary to develop software for industrial robots. The new structure was called Intrinsic Inc, it was created on the basis of the existing Intrinsic project, which worked within the division of breakthrough ideas and technologies X Development.
It is not yet clear which technologies Intrinsic is working on and which customers the company hopes to attract. The company's new CEO, Wendy Tan White, outlines Intrinsic's ambitions: they "will unlock the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics for millions of companies, entrepreneurs and developers" by creating software that "will simplify the use of industrial robots, make it cheaper and more flexible so that more people can use them to create new products, companies and services."
The company intends to search for industrial partners primarily "in the automotive industry, electronics and healthcare, which already use industrial robots and want to study together," Intrinsic said in a statement. The company intends to use AI, with the help of which robots can manipulate objects without direct control.
For a number of years, our team has been exploring how to give industrial robots the ability to evaluate their environment, learn and automatically make changes as they complete tasks so that they can work in a wider range of settings and applications. [We] tested software that uses techniques such as automatic perception, deep learning, reinforcement training, motion planning, simulation, and force control.[1] |
