History

2019: Boston Dynamics purchased Kinema Systems

At the beginning of April, 2019 Boston Dynamics announced acquisition of a startup of Kinema Systems, thereby having designated shift towards commercialization. Earlier Boston Dynamics was generally concentrated on researches in the field of robotics.

Having announced absorption Kinema Systems, the company released video on which the robotic hand using the Pick program from Kinema Systems selects boxes of the different sizes and places them on the conveyer belt. How many Boston Dynamics paid for this acquisition, it is not specified.

The founder and the CEO of Boston Dynamics Marc Raibert noted that attraction of the Kinema command and their software of Pick should accelerate entry of the company into the market of logistics. Besides that new software – the impressive tool for industrial robotic manipulators, Kinema technologies can potentially provide the solution of different difficult tasks in the field of robotics, he added.

Boston Dynamics purchased Kinema Systems company for creation of warehouse robots

Though Boston Dynamics already showed the robots at different exhibitions, it by the beginning of April, 2019 did not bring them to the market, having focused instead on researches. When in 2017 Google sold the company to the Japanese technology giant SoftBank, many suspected that the former owner just was disappointed in acquisition: too long Boston Dynamics developed a commercial product. However Raybert refuted these statements, having noted that development of the company took its course, and researches were not a stage through passage.

Boston Dynamics integrates the Pick system into the Handle robot and also is going to sell it to software to other clients. Besides, in April, 2019 Boston Dynamics is going to show the robotic manipulator with new software at the Promat exhibition, the devoted industrial automation and supply chains.[1]
