2022: Creation of Trellix, combining assets and technologies McAfee Enterprise and FireEye
The investment firm Symphony Technology Group on January 19, 2022 announced the creation of Trellix, which will combine the assets and technologies of the IB firms McAfee Enterprise and FireEye, purchased by STG last year.
Trellix will supply XDR solutions - advanced cyber threat detection and response systems (XDR - short for Extended Detection and Response - "advanced detection and response"). Such systems are considered the most advanced means of protection: they carry out contextual monitoring of a huge number of data sources in corporate networks and cloud infrastructures and analyze them for anomalies that may indicate the occurrence of cyber threats; thus, XDR systems prevent the development of the threat.
So far, only about 5% of organizations in the world use XDR solutions, but, according to the analytical agency, Gartner this figure can grow to 40% by 2027.
Both McAfee Enterprise and FireEye were suppliers of XDR systems on their own. The newly created structure - Trellix - will unite their technologies. The company is expected to take a leadership position in the XDR market. Moreover, the company has already proclaimed its own concept of cyber defense - living security ("live" security). This name is due to the fact that Trellix security technologies will adapt to the most advanced cyber threats that client organizations can meet.
"As organizations strive for digital transformation, they need a strong security foundation to ensure continued growth, innovation, and sustainability," said Brian Palma, CEO of Trellix. "By protecting our customers, Trellix's XDR platform breathes life into cyber defense - with automation, machine learning, extensible architecture, and threat analytics." |
Palma also noted that Trellix is a completely new structure, not just a result of the merger of FireEye and McAfee Enterprise.
With the launch of Trellix, both of these brands will cease to exist.
"This structure has all the prerequisites for achieving at least a significant market share," said Anastasia Melnikova, director of information security at SEQ. - Both companies, united under the new brand, had a very wide expertise in the field of protection against cyber threats, including at the level of XDR systems. A wide user base for them, too, can be said to be guaranteed. " |
In the fall of 2021, STG bought back the assets of FireEye from the former brand holder, who then regained his former name - Mandiant and left behind shares traded on the NASDAQ exchange under the FEYE index; they were renamed MNDT.
At the disposal of STG were the brand, technology and most of the employees of the FireEye. The size of the transaction amounted to 1.2 billion. dollars
Prior to this, in the spring of 2021, STG bought out the McAfee 's corporate protection division, without disclosing financial details.
In October 2021, it was announced that STG plans to merge McAfee Enterprise and FireEye into a single structure. Its name has not yet been revealed.
STG also announced that it plans to form another separate company that will further develop the technology portfolio McAfee Enterpries Secure Service Edge.[1]
