AutoForm provides engineering software for the production of dies and sheet metal forming, which is mainly used in the automotive industry. Software solutions are AutoForm intended for enterprises whose technological processes include traditional sheet stamping: automakers and suppliers of stamping equipment, manufacturers of agricultural machinery, household appliances, defense industry. The company has offices in all major markets, as well as distributors in many countries. The developments are AutoForm used in Russia, in particular by the GAZ group, Avtovaz JSC and KamAZ.

History

2021: Carlyle bought AutoForm for $2 billion

At the end of November 2021, the investment company Carlyle announced the acquisition of the Swiss manufacturer of industrial software AutoForm from the private investment company Astorg. The deal amounted to $2 billion.

According to Reuters, Carlyle was advised by Rothschild and law firms Linklaters, Lenz & Staehelin and Latham & Watkins, while Astorg represented Evercore, Jefferies and law firm Paul Hastings.

The company AutoForm, based in the Swiss city of Freienbach, uses the technologies necessary for the design of sheet metal parts, usually used in cars, as well as for modeling the process of connecting the car with its frame. Tesla, General Motors, Volkswagen are among about 1,000 automakers that use AutoForm software to minimize carbon emissions and improve fuel efficiency in their vehicles. The software is AutoForm accessed through a cloud that automakers access on a case-by-case basis.[1][2]
