2025: Avtodom bought from Autoliv an airbag plant in Togliatti
The group of companies Autohouse"" acquired a factory for the production of airbags in Togliatti, previously owned by the Swedish Autoliv. The transaction was registered on February 27, 2025, according to the data of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
According to Interfax, control over the enterprise passed from the Swedish Autoliv AB to Avtodom JSC, owned by businessman Andrei Olkhovsky. Avtodom Group previously gained control over Mercedes-Benz assets, including an automobile plant in the Moscow region.[1]
2023: Dismissal of 8 thousand people
On June 8, 2023, the Swedish-American manufacturer of automotive safety systems Autoliv announced its intention to carry out a comprehensive restructuring, during which the number of personnel will be reduced by approximately 8 thousand people on a global scale.
The planned layoffs were announced by Autoliv executive director Mikael Bratt. According to him, the company in the current macroeconomic situation faced sharply increased production costs, and therefore was forced to look for ways to reduce costs. Autoliv, one of the world's largest suppliers of belts and airbags, is also under severe inflationary pressure.
The company said staff cuts would be made around the world, but the restructuring would have an especially strong impact on businesses in Europe, where several sites would be closed. Direct layoffs will affect about 6 thousand people, while about 2 thousand more positions will be eliminated indirectly (for example, by leaving workers of their own free will or through the retirement of elderly people).
We intend to simplify and optimize operations in all areas. The reduction in headcount will affect people working in our offices, technical centers and factories, including leadership positions at all levels, Bratt stated. |
It is noted that in Europe Autoliv has the most significant presence in Romania (10,500 employees), as well as in Poland (2500 employees), Hungary (2000 people) and France (2000 employees). In addition, the company operates divisions in Mexico (15,000 employees), China (9,000 people), Thailand (4,000 employees) and Turkey (3,000 employees). In April 2023, the company announced that it was building a new airbag plant in Vietnam that would employ up to 2,000 people.[2]
2021-2022
Autoliv LLC was officially registered in 2008. Until 2022, the company actively functioned, releasing a wide range of automotive components for safety systems at its production facilities in Togliatti. The plant operated specialized workshops for the production of belts and safety locks, airbags, as well as steering systems.
The main customers of the products of the Togliatti enterprise were Russian production sites of such international automobile concerns as Volkswagen, Toyota, Nissan, Renault, Peugeot-Citroen, as well as other local automakers.
According to the official financial statements of Autoliv LLC, in 2021 the company demonstrated stable financial indicators: revenue amounted to ₽2,1 billion, and net profit reached ₽217,7 million. However, in subsequent years, there was a significant deterioration in the economic results of the enterprise.
Against the background of forced production downtime in 2022-2023, the company's financial performance dropped sharply. The turnover of the enterprise gradually decreased to almost zero. At the end of 2022, losses of ₽1 billion were recorded, and in 2023 - ₽120 million.
The auto component manufacturer estimated impairment losses on its idling production facilities at more than ₽150 million. This amount was recorded in the financial statements of the company for the specified period.
