History
2021: Suspension of Russian exports through the Druzhba pipeline for pumping Azerbaijani oil through Odessa
In September 2021, the Druzhba oil pipeline was paralyzed due to the synchronous decision of Poland and Belarus to "block cranes" for Russian raw materials.
Both branches of the pipeline, built in the 1960s to supply Soviet oil to the Eastern European countries of the CMEA, were blocked for Russian exports.
The first to stop pumping for four days was announced by Belarus. On August 9, the day of the visit of President President Alexander Lukashenko to Moscow, Belneftekhim state concern stopped exports along the southern branch of Friendship in order to launch it in reverse mode and accept Azerbaijani oil from Odessa.
A long-term agreement between the Belarusian Oil Company and the state-owned Azerbaijani SOCAR was concluded in December 2020. It was assumed that deliveries will amount to at least 1 million tons of Azeri Light grade.
Following the southern branch of Friendship, pumping oil to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, two days later restrictions were imposed on the second, northern branch, along which raw materials are supplied to Poland, and then to Germany.
From September 11 to 14, the Polish national operator of the Pern pipeline introduced restrictions on oil reception , said Transneft spokesman Igor Demin.
According to him, the Polish side explained the decision by overflow before the failure of the Schwedt refinery storage facility.
