2024: The creation of the center

In August 2024, the Kyrgyz government established the Center for Information Environment Research (TSIIS), which will be subordinate to the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy.

In accordance with the published provision, the functions of the center are:

• monitoring of information materials on the Internet and the media;
• development of recommendations for improving the information environment;
• analysis and identification of conflict zones in the Internet space;
• identification of intentional or unintentional actions of the media that have a destructive impact and harm to the physical or mental health of citizens.

The idea of ​ ​ the need to create such a Center was expressed at the beginning of 2023, against the background of the desire of the deputies of the Zhokorgu Kenesh Emilbek Zhamgyrchiev and Zhanybek Kydykbaev to control content in social networks, and Shailobek Atazov - to ban TikTok.

With regard to control, Bishkek is moving in the same vein as neighboring countries, given the challenges facing countries caught in the crosshairs of disinformation campaigns.
