2021: Completion in Canada
The Canadian daughter of China Mobile will curtail its operations for national security reasons. This became known on December 30, 2021.
The company itself claims that the government has no reason to see CMLink as a threat to the country's security.
According to a press release from CMLink, starting December 28, 2021, it will stop accepting new connection requests, and all SIM cards not activated until January 5 will be empty. The company promised to help its subscribers switch to other operators with the preservation of their current number until March 31, 2022. CMLink also announced money-back mechanisms for subscribers.
In August 2021, the federal government of Canada, for security reasons, ordered China Mobile to sell or liquidate its business in Canada within 90 days.
In September, CMLink sued to temporarily delay the execution of a federal government decree. However, in December 2021, the court rejected the appeal of CMLink.
The Canadian subsidiary of China Mobile was established in 2015 as a telecom operator. However, it does not have its own telecommunications networks in Canada, so it has teamed up with Canada's Telus Communications to provide services through its networks[1].
