2024: Launch of a robotic surgeon for joint arthroplasty operations

On June 17, 2024, it became known that a new robotic surgical system was put into operation in the city clinical hospital No. 13, designed for joint replacement operations. This innovative solution will significantly increase the accuracy of implant placement and minimize the risk of complications, providing patients with long-term and comfortable use of prostheses.

We focus on the development of minimally invasive high-tech operations using robot-assisted systems. Thanks to a large-scale program to equip hospitals with modern equipment and constant advanced training of doctors, the number of operations using robots in the capital has increased 1.5 times over the past five years, "said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

She added that the new robotic system installed in GKB No. 13 uses artificial intelligence to create a personalized surgery plan based on a three-dimensional joint model obtained using computed tomography. This makes it possible to accurately install implants, reducing the risk of complications and ensuring the longest possible use of endoprostheses.

Rakova emphasized that the operations performed using this system are highly accurate and minimal trauma, which allows patients to quickly recover. "

Artificial intelligence forms a plan for optimal removal of affected tissues and preparation of joint surfaces for implantation. It takes no more than 15-20 minutes to develop the plan, and the operation itself lasts about 45 minutes. The robotic system makes it possible to minimize errors that could lead to instability of the joint and restriction of motor functions. In addition, the system makes it possible to test the performance of the implant directly when it is installed, which allows surgeons to make the necessary adjustments in real time.[1]
