The concert choir of St. Petersburg has been officially called the collective headed by Vladimir Begletsov since May 1, 2016.
The former name of the collective is the Chamber Choir of Smolny Cathedral. In 1990, Smolny Cathedral acquired the status of a concert and exhibition hall. In 1991, the Chamber Choir was formed. At first, the team was led by Stanislav Legkov, later the main conductors were Andrei Petrenko and Eduard Krotman. In 2004, Smolny Cathedral joined the St. Isaac's Cathedral State Museum-Monument and in the same year the artistic leadership of the choir was taken over by Honored Artist of Russia Vladimir Begletsov.
By 2025, the choir performed liturgical chants of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Grechaninov, concerts of Bortnyansky and choral opuses of Taneev, compositions by Pergolesi and Bernstein, Schnittke and Sviridov, masses, requiems of Schütz, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Fauré, Verdi. Contemporary composers trust Vladimir Begletsov and his team to premiere their works.
An integral part of the choir's repertoire is a cycle of choral suites, where folk songs, legendary rock compositions, songs of the war years, classical miniatures form unexpectedly organic and emotionally intense sound subjects.
The choir is warmly received in Moscow and European capitals, in small and large cities of Russia from Kaliningrad to Novosibirsk, in China and Kazakhstan... But the native house of the collective is St. Isaac's Cathedral, under the arches of which, as well as in the museum "Savior on Blood," most of the performances of the Concert Choir of St. Petersburg take place.
