2025: Introduction of Russian sanctions

The German carmaker Daimler Truck has been included in the list of legal entities subject to economic sanctions. The decree of the Government of the Russian Federation in June 2025 was published on the portal of publication of legal acts. It is forbidden to make transactions with the persons involved in the sanctions list, fulfill their obligations under the concluded transactions, as well as carry out financial transactions beneficial for them. At the same time, the government can issue temporary permits for the conclusion of individual transactions.[1]

2022: Suspension of cooperation with Kamaz against the background of a special operation in Ukraine

On February 28, 2022, Daimler Truck announced that it was suspending all cooperation with the Russian Kamaz amid a special operation by the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, the German newspaper Handelsblatt reported, citing company representatives.

2021: Creation of Daimler Truck to produce trucks and buses

In early February 2021, Daimler management announced a decision to divide the concern into two independent companies - Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Truck. The move is expected to allow divisions to achieve greater market flexibility, and Daimler Truck will be able to attract additional investment to switch to clean appliances (electric and hydrogen trucks).

The units that develop trucks and buses will be spun off into Daimler Truck and have their own executive, board and separate headquarters. The new company will continue to produce cars under the brands Mercedes-Benz, Setra (Germany), BharatBenz (India), Freightliner (USA), Fuso (Japan), Thomas Built Buses (USA) and Western Star (USA).

Daimler creates a new company for the production of trucks and buses

The main company Daimler AG, which will remain in charge of passenger cars and light commercial equipment (vans and minibuses), will be renamed Mercedes-Benz AG. Ula Callenius will remain the head of the company, she will retain the brands Mercedes-Benz, AMG, Maybach.

The new companies Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler Truck expect an independent future, but the financial connection between them will remain. The shares of the companies will be distributed among the current owners of the Daimler AG concern, but a small part of the shares of the new Daimler Truck company will be owned by an enterprise focused exclusively on passenger cars. According to Ula Callenius, a detailed plan for the formation of new companies will be prepared in the coming months, and its completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2021.

Company officials said that despite the split, the two new companies would continue to be open to cooperation on new technologies.[2]
