On February 28, 2022, Daimler Truck announced that it was suspending all cooperation with the Russian Kamaz against the backdrop of a special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, the German newspaper Handelsblatt reports citing company representatives.
2021: Daimler Truck for Truck and Bus Manufacturing
In early February 2021, Daimler management announced a decision to divide the concern into two independent companies - Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Truck. It is expected that this step will allow the divisions to achieve more flexibility in the market, and Daimler Truck will be able to attract additional investments to switch to environmentally friendly equipment (electric and hydrogen trucks).
The units that develop trucks and buses will be allocated to Daimler Truck and will have its own head, board of directors and separate headquarters. The new company will continue to produce cars under the brands Mercedes-Benz, Setra (Germany), BharatBenz (India), Freightliner (USA), Fuso (Japan), Thomas Built Buses (USA) and Western Star (USA).
The main company Daimler AG, which will maintain cars and light commercial equipment (vans and minibuses), will be renamed Mercedes-Benz AG. The head of the company will remain Ula Callenius, she will retain the brands Mercedes-Benz, AMG, Maybach.
The new companies Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler Truck expect an independent future, but the financial connection between them will continue. Shares of the companies will be distributed among the current owners of the Daimler AG concern, but a small part of the shares of the new Daimler Truck company will belong to an enterprise focused exclusively on cars. cars According to Ul Callenius, a detailed plan for the formation of new companies will be prepared in the coming months, and its completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2021.
Representatives of the company said that, despite the separation, the two new companies will continue to be open to cooperation in the field of new technologies.[1]
