2023: Creating a squad to "patrol" games and social media

At the end of June 2023, it was reported that an online police patrol was created in Denmark, whose employees prevent crimes by playing video games. Police officers play Counter-Strike 2, Minecraft and Fortnite and learn about crimes by interacting with teenagers.

According to Ibtimes, in addition to being paid to play, employees of the Internet patrol unit work on Twitch, Discord, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. The Danish police report that they are present on the Internet in order to make the network a safer place for both children and adults.

While patrolling on the Internet, they are dressed in uniforms, their main targets are sex maniacs and economic criminals. The 10-member unit was created in April 2022 amid rising online crime during the COVID-19 pandemic. The department opened more than 65 cases for June 2023.

Periodically, the police arrange video game streaming on Twitch, which can be joined by everyone. In June 29, 2023, they have 127 thousand subscribers on TikTok, 23 thousand on Twitch, 10 thousand on Facebook and 6 thousand on Instagram. Police officers are usually open about who they are, although on rare occasions they work undercover.

Some 87% of Danes trust the police by 2023, according to statistics. It is noted that in a country where the police are highly respected by society, the patrol received wide approval.[1]
