2021: Car Base Software Development and Delivery Plan
December 9, 2021 it became known that Bosch it combines the development of a universal ON for cars in one division of ETAS GmbH. The company plans to develop and supply basic car software, cross-platform software, cloud services and development tools for universal application. By mid-2022, a total of 2,300 experts from various areas of Bosch and ETAS development will be gathered at this center.
Previously, there was a rule according to which cars were delivered as a finished product. In the future, automotive software will expand its capabilities throughout its life cycle as it improves. This will allow drivers to gain individual digital driving experience, and will also become the basis for new business models of manufacturers. Development is just beginning. Experts predict that in the next few years the market for car software will be in the billions. Bosch predicts growth, measured in double digits, until 2030. The reorganization that Bosch plans for independent automotive software divisions under the auspices of the ETAS subsidiary is evidence of this transformation.
The partnership between Bosch and Microsoft, which began in February 2021, will continue in the conditions of the created organizational structure. It aims to develop a comprehensive software platform for seamlessly connecting cars to the cloud, which will allow faster and easier development of software for cars over the entire life cycle, as well as loading it into control units and autocomputers through the cloud.
Software development has long been Bosch's key competence. Every year, we install more than 200 million control units with our own software into cars around the world. As of December 2021, the company has about 1,500 employees in 12 countries. Another 800 Bosch employees will replenish the company's staff in mid-2022.
