History

2020: EQT Partners purchased EdgeConneX

In the middle of August, 2020 the Swedish company EQT Partners announced purchase of a controlling stake of EdgeConneX, one of the America's first developers of peripheral data processing centers who purchased DPC in Poland at the Russian Linxdatacenter earlier. Closing of the transaction is planned on the fourth quarter 2020. As a result of it owners of the EQT Infrastructure IV fund entering into EQT will control 85% of stocks of the operator of DPC.

The CEO of EdgeConneX Randy Brouckman does not consider the transaction as serious strategic shift for the company, purchase will influence Providence fund, the main sponsor of the company rather, and development of the new owner. Brouckman noted that acquisition of EdgeConneX will help EQT Partners company to expand the presence in the peripheral markets.

EQT Partners became the owner of EdgeConneX

EdgeConneX always adhered to the concept of construction of data processing centers taking into account location, and this approach was repaid. The leading service providers of cable television - Comcast, Charter Communications and Cox Communications - along with Akamai were the first investors of EdgeConneX. All of them wanted to construct data processing centers as it is possible closer to the viewer. As a result the company could cover about 23 markets for the 24-month period that Brukman called "a titanic task".

Earlier EdgeConneX constructed the first peripheral data processing center of general purpose in Houston, and in 2020 the EdgeConneX Silicon Valley Holdings II branch closed the deal on purchase of industrial park of 229,000 quarter of feet in Santa Clara. EdgeConneX considers that it is one of the best places for creation of DPC, exactly here are tested unmanned vehicles.[1]
