History

2021: Acquisition by Acronis

Acronis, a cyber defense representative, informed TAdviser on March 16, 2021 of the acquisition of Synapsys, its longtime partner located in Cape Town, South Africa, which specializes in delivering Acronis Cyber Protection Solutions solutions through service providers. This is the fourth acquisition of Acronis in the last 18 months, which was another step in terms of accelerated growth of the company.

Synapsys has been a trusted and valuable partner in our efforts to extend our cyber protection solutions to organizations across the African continent. This acquisition will give their users direct access to our technology and support. At the same time, Africa is becoming a strategic growth opportunity for Acronis, and the acquisition of Synapsys provides us with a permanent presence on the continent. This step is beneficial for Acronis, an African MSP channel, as well as for organizations and users who need to protect their workflows and systems from threats,
said Sergey "SB" Belousov, founder and CEO of Acronis.

The acquisition is consistent with Acronis's approach to operate as a global/local company, which aims to provide expanded access within individual countries to the company's global resources. As the demand for cloud and managed services grows worldwide, this creates opportunities for service providers providing Acronis Cyber Protection Solutions. The Global/Local approach reflects the company's desire to stay close to its partners and help them develop their business, while protecting their customers from threats.

Peter French, managing director of Synapsys, will now serve as Acronis CEO in the Middle East and Africa market. He commented on the relationship that led to the acquisition.

Business schools do not advise putting all eggs in one basket. But that's what we did to Acronis, and we never regretted it. Our focus on cloud technology and partnership is underpinned by our commitment to the Acronis mission, especially our desire for the cloud and cyber-protective approach to data protection and digital security. This deal seems a natural extension of this long-standing relationship. Partnership is a people-based relationship: we look forward to continuing to support MSPs across Africa in providing cyber protection to the ecosystem, already as part of Acronis. And former Synapsys partners can count on a closer relationship with Acronis, working with the same core team they have come to trust over the years,
said Peter French.

After the planned transition period, Synchronsys will be integrated into Acronis and will be responsible for all sales of Acronis world-class cyber defense solutions in Africa.

As part of Acronis' accelerated growth strategy, Acronis will continue to explore potential acquisitions that will enhance its ability to address the five cyber security vectors, addressing the security, availability, privacy, authenticity, and security (SAPAS) challenges faced by data, applications, and systems.
