2009: Start of the paper newspaper

F5 newspaper was issued by media group "ZhV!" of Mikhail Prokhorov since February, 2009.

2011: Onexim tries to save the newspaper, having reduced costs

Sales of advertizing in the free edition strongly depend from … distributions. Always was considered that F5 is the youth edition, and then we found out that it is read generally by men of middle age and with good prosperity. The audience changes depending on where the newspaper is distributed. If in MSU – that the publisher receives youth audience. If in cafe and restaurants with the average check in one thousand rubles – another. Respectively, your reader and – as at any media product – the advertiser depends on distribution.

Today costs for printing, logistics distribution make nearly 60% of cost value of the F5 project. The market of free editions (especially in Moscow) is saturated. And more the capital project – it to implement F5 very costly. We had an idea to close the paper version and to pass into online, but we refused it. Band-two advertizing are on sale, it is normal money. If we close the paper version, not the fact that advertisers will pass into online F5. There is no wish lose advertisers who are. Perhaps, it is worth going from 24 bands to 16, to replace paper, to optimize channels of delivery. We think in this direction. F5 will not get to anywhere, but there is a question of a format, reduction of costs^[1].

2012

Katsman becomes the owner of F5

In April, 2012 Yury Katsman became the owner of F5, having exchanged the share in the media group "ZhV!"

Then he commented on the transaction: "All! Yesterday finally agreed on financial and other terms of the exchange of my share in Media group "Live" on assets of the F5 project. Since April 13 if there is no force majeure, I become the full owner of the newspaper (including iPad-verisyu), the website and also some other assets (for example, Film society there are the company, at which, in particular, rights to distribution of the movie "Khodorkovsky" in the Russian Federation and the CIS and which very successfully "skated" it in December-February), and F5 will go to further swimming already independently.

F5 command is waited by "cheerful" one and a half months (and the same, however, "cheerful" next months and years) - all organizational and publishing processes will need to be built up again, irrespective of Media group "Live". In parallel podrikhtuy the concept and model, we will study synergy with other projects in which I participate (in particular, with Fotoloft gallery). So F5 will be even better! Once, by the way, I already left so big and mighty ID - from Kommersant, together with the Sekret Firmy magazine and its command. History repeats itself. But the farce will not be)".

Closing of the newspaper, preserving of the website

In August, 2012 it became known that the project owner of F5 Yury Katsman closes the newspaper of the same name because of low profitability^[2]. The issue of the edition was suspended on August 13, the media manager in Facebook reported. He thanked authors, advertisers and information partners of F5 for "long-term interesting cooperation". Information on closing was confirmed also by the writer Leonid Kaganov. In addition to the newspaper the F5 project includes the website, newspaper iPad version, Kinoklub company.

Earlier the editor-in-chief of F5 Yury Katsman in one of the interviews directly said: "Our marketing task – to motivate people using the newspaper to go on website F5 which performs in the project absolutely other function. Eventually, in several years F5 newspaper can die, but it will carry out the commercial and marketing task".

The online edition f5.ru works in the normal mode. According to Katsman, in October, 2012 the F5 project should be started in a new format.

2015: Stop of updating of the website

On the middle of October, 2015 the website F5.ru is not updated within a month.
