2019: Reduction of 70% of the state

On July 22, 2019 it was announced reduction of 70% of number of staff in the American research company Futurewei Technologies which is included into Huawei. Liquidation of jobs turned out to be consequence of sanctions which U.S. authorities inflicted on the Chinese producer of telecommunication equipment and mobile devices.

In Futurewei 850 people worked, more than 600 dismissed. The company had offices in Silicon Valley, Seattle, Chicago and Dallas. Futurewei registered in the USA more than 2100 patents in such areas as telecommunication technologies, a 5G network, developments for video cameras, etc.

Huawei dismissed 70% of employees in American "subsidiary"

Futurewei was created for cooperation with the universities and research organizations. In 2018 the company registered losses in the amount of $510 million.

According to Reuters with reference to the statement of Huawei, staff reduction in Futurewei happened "because of business reduction" in connection with actions of the American authorities.

Getting of Huawei into the black list of Ministry of Commerce of the USA led to prohibition on transfer of important Futurewei technologies of parent company.

Still on May 17, 2019, directly before prohibition became effective, Huawei asked all staff of Futurewei to load all data into a cloud of the Chinese company. After this Futurewei practically ceased to work, one of the staff of the company told Reuters.

Before dismissals in Futurewei Huawei had about 1500 employees in the USA. Those who did not work in Futurewei, were engaged in management of a supply channel, a customer support, interaction with the press, etc.

Huawei was going to enter the American market of smartphones therefore also employed sales managers and engineers on certification of chips. Since January, 2018 the number of staff of Huawei in the USA decreases.[1]
