2003: Re-equipment of the main building in business center
The main building of institute on Mira Avenue built in 1956 in 2003 is converted in business center "Gipromez".
1992: Incorporating institute. Moscow Gipromez is purchased by Metalloinvest
In 1992 the institute was incorporated (JSC Gipromez is formed), on the basis of branches in the 1990s the independent organizations were formed (Azovgipromez, Sibgipromez and others, with the patrimonial name "gipromeza"), Moscow Gipromez is purchased by Metalloinvest company.
1943: Transfer of institute to Moscow
In 1943 according to the decision of the Government the institute was transferred to Moscow and began work on tasks of recovery of the metallurgical enterprises destroyed during war, from this time became actually main design institute in ferrous metallurgy of the USSR providing a technical guidance with design in the industry.
Was engaged in development and implementation of the project documentation on reconstruction, modernization of the metallurgical enterprises both in the territory of the Soviet Union, and beyond its limits, in particular, Gipromez designs such metallurgical enterprises as:
- Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MISW),
- Novolipetsk Metallurgical Combine, NLMK,
- Cherepovets,
- Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant,
- West-Siberian Metallurgical Plant,
- Kuznetsk,
- Oskol Electric Steel Works (OEMK),
- Sickle and Hammer plant,
- Krivorozhstal,
- Zaporozhstal,
- Azovstal,
- Dneprospetsstal.
In the cities where the largest plants were constructed, branches of institute were open (in Chelyabinsk, Lipetsk, Magnitogorsk, Novokuznetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Leningrad, Zhdanov). Besides Gipromez's specialists projected, and were directly involved at design and construction of foreign objects, in particular, of the plant in Bhilai in India.
In 1971 the institute is awarded with the Order of Lenin. The chief film distributor of Gipromez Doctor of Engineering Alexander Istomin (1901 — 1981) was a winner of Stalin and Lenin awards. In the mid-eighties in some branches about 1000 people worked.
1926: Foundation of institute
Gipromez (The state institute on design of steel works, also GIPROMEZ, GIPROMEZ) is the Soviet design institute which was engaged in design of the enterprises of ferrous metallurgy, was founded in Leningrad by the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the National Economy of the USSR of February 3, 1926. In 1930 — 1931 CEO of institute there was Avramy Zavenyagin.
Based on departments of institute are created by Giprotsvetmet (1930), Gipromash (1930), Giproruda (1932) and other institutes. Years of formation of institute are connected with M.A. Pavlov, A.A. Baykov, I.P. Bardin's names.
