The Sverdlovsk region is one of the largest in Russia, it ranks 5th in the country in terms of population and 6th in terms of gross regional product. The decision to introduce a modern document management system made by the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region is one of the stages of the development of the Electronic Government program, the goals of which are to overcome digital inequality, provide all residents of the country with equal opportunities to access public services and obtain the necessary information, as well as improve the quality of analytical data used to solve the problems of public administration and development of the social sphere.

The Sverdlovsk region and the Ural Federal District occupy the leading positions in terms of the pace of informatization among the regions of Russia: in particular, the System of Interdepartmental Electronic Interaction (SMEV), which should be implemented in all regions of Russia by July 1, 2012, has already been connected and tested in the government of the Sverdlovsk region. As Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Ilya Massukh noted at the IV All-Russian Forum "Electronic Government - a Modern Mechanism for Regional Management" held on November 22, 2011, the Sverdlovsk Region is also the leader in the number of users registered on the unified portal of state and municipal services.

History

2025: Appointment of Denis Pasler as head of the Sverdlovsk region

On March 26, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Denis Pasler as interim governor of the Sverdlovsk Region. The current head of the region, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, who headed the region for 12 years, resigned of his own free will on the same day. Read more here.
