In August, 2010 it became known that about 23 billion yens ($270 million) in the budget of Japan as an additional tax obliged to pay the Japanese division of Hewlett-Packard company after the authorities were established that Hewlett-Packard underestimated the income, taxable, reports the Japanese edition Asahi daily. According to the newspaper, the Tokyo regional tax office established that Hewlett-Packard Japan did not declare about 47 billion yens of income within two years since October, 2006 Representatives of the Japanese division of Hewlett-Packard appear to comment on this decision of the Japanese authorities.

According to the available data, Hewlett-Packard Japan pays about 20 billion yens of the parent company in the USA for administrative work, however the staff of tax bureau decided that this amount should not be considered as expenses though earlier it appeared in financial statements in this quality. Hewlett-Packard Japan obeyed to this requirement of the authorities and already paid an additional tax, however also submitted the petition with intention to dispute the solution of the Tokyo tax bureau.
