2020: The beginning of construction of the plant on production of engines in St. Petersburg for 13.1 billion rubles
On June 30, 2020 Hyundai began to build the plant on production of engines in St. Petersburg. The total area of buildings of the plant exceeds 36 thousand sq.m. The new enterprise will provide creation more than 500 jobs. Investments into the project are estimated at 13.1 billion rubles.
At the first stage of work the Hyundai VIA Rus plant is going to produce 240 thousand engines a year, working in two production changes. In the long term enterprise capacity can increase up to 330 thousand engines a year that part of them for export will allow to send.
The plant will make Gamma I engines of 1.6 l which will equip the Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio cars released in Russia. At the plant equipped with the hi-tech equipment processing of the main parts of the engine and its subsequent assembly will be performed. The number of principal components which are going to be localized in St. Petersburg includes the block of cylinders, heads of the block of cylinders and the crankshaft.
The new platform will be placed in close proximity to the existing Hyundai plant, and the first power units will roll off its production lines in October, 2021.
According to the governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, the city will accompany the new project of Hyundai and will assist in creation of necessary infrastructure.

And all this time the investment project of construction of the new plant is implemented. Today the level of localization of production of Hyundai in our city is 47% — Beglov at a ceremony of the beginning of construction of the enterprise said. |
As reported in the press release of car maker, construction of the plant on production of engines in St. Petersburg – the fifth similar project for Hyundai WIA in the world. By the end of June, 2020 the company has plants on production of engines in South Korea, China and Mexico.[1]
