Start of DPC construction near Yekaterinburg

At the end of November 2023, Key Point began construction of a data center in the Sverdlovsk Region. Its capacity will be 880 server racks, which, according to the company, will meet international standards for ensuring stable operation of computing systems of any generation.

The project for the construction of a data center in Yekaterinburg with a total area of 6550 square meters. m will be implemented in two stages with the possibility of increasing capacity. The first stage includes the construction of an administrative building and the technological part of the data center with a capacity of 330 IT racks with a capacity of 7 kW each. The second stage includes the construction of the technological part of the data center with a capacity of 550 IT racks with a capacity of 7 kW each.

Key Point Data Center Project

It is assumed that telecom operators, Internet providers, IT and service companies, state, medical and educational institutions, enterprises of the fuel and energy complex and the financial sector, as well as industrial, transport, logistics and other companies will become clients of the new data center. It is noted that the project will be implemented through private investment.

According to Deputy Minister of Investments of the Sverdlovsk Region Sergei Sosnovsky, the emergence of such a high-tech facility in the region will accelerate the introduction of the necessary and important digital services, and their availability will increase. He also noted that the construction of new data centers is the foundation for ensuring information security both in the region and in the country as a whole.

I am sure that the new data center will be able to become a reliable support for the introduction of digital services and will be of strategic importance for the entire region, "said Aleksey Sergeyevich Saburov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Sverdlovsk Region.[1]

Immigrants from Lanit and Rostelecom decided to build up data centers in Russia. The plans include about 30 facilities with a total capacity of up to 80 MW

Key Point (Kay Point LLC) May 26, 2023 announced plans to create a large-scale regional network of data centers in partnership with 3data (DC 3Data LLC). The owners of Key Point are Evgeny Virzer, who worked for many years in the structures of Lanita, including the position of general director of Lanit-Nord, and IT entrepreneur Alexander Martynyuk. The latter is known, among other things, for the fact that in the past he led a project to create a network of data centers within the framework of the project of the Unified Distributed Data Center (ERDC) in Rostelecom.

According to the database of legal entities Kontur.Focus, "they own Key Point in equal shares. The shares of the founders are pledged by the state corporation "ВЭБ.РФ."

The Key Point project is 2.5 years old, it began with the construction of a data center in Vladivostok. This is due to the fact that there are practically no data centers in the Far East, Evgeny Virzer explained at a press conference. 3-4 months after the announcement of this data center, demand forced the company to expand the project 4 times - the first stage was built on 440 racks instead of the planned 100 racks, and now they are starting to build the second stage of a similar scale.

From Key Point Presentation

In the course of this project, we realized that in all regions of the country there is practically no market for commercial data centers as such. There are small data centers of operators, small corporate data centers where large federal customers are represented, but there is no such market that exists in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Therefore, the idea of creating a regional network arose, - explained Evgeny Virzer.

The plans are to build about 30 facilities for 10 thousand racks with a total supplied capacity of about 70-80 MW. Five of the planned facilities are nodal, supporting data centers in the following cities: Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Stavropol and Nizhny Novgorod. And then, depending on demand, smaller data centers in other large cities by region will be added to them.

In Vladivostok, the data center was built with the support of the Far East Development Corporation. In February 2023, it was put into operation, and as of May "is actively filling with customers."

The data center in Novosibirsk is under construction as of May 2023. At the design stage - the data center in Yekaterinburg, in March 2024 it is planned to launch the first stage. And in June 2023, it is planned to begin construction and installation work on the data center in Stavropol, which should become the most powerful in the entire data center network.

Our main task is to form an infrastructure to which regional and federal companies, regardless of where their headquarters are located, will be able to endure their critical infrastructure, "said Alexander Martynyuk at a press conference.

The co-owner of Key Point added that the company sets itself the task of shaping a high-quality collocation market in the regions. If we talk about the market as a whole, then it is now very consolidated in Russia - over the past few years, various mergers and acquisitions have taken place.

The main funds for which the project is financed are project bank financing, said Evgeny Virzer. Key Point found it difficult to clarify the total funding required by TAdviser: it "will be clear later."

The 3data data center network in the project acts as a distributor of Key Point data center services. 3data CEO Ilya Hala noted that data centers of telecom operators in the regions are not competitors to their project with Key Point, because they build data centers, first of all, for their own tasks.

In 2022, as you know, in Russia there were difficulties with the supply of equipment for data centers, including due to the departure of many foreign vendors from the country. Evgeny Virzer claims that the company has already settled this problem for itself: "if today's situation does not change, then this is no longer a problem." Earlier, during the construction in Vladivostok, the company faced this problem: all the main equipment was ordered at the end of 2021 from manufacturers who subsequently left Russia.

The founders of Key Point have other businesses. So, for example, Evgeny Virzer is developing the company "Free Engineering Technologies," which is engaged in the design and construction of data centers. And Alexander Martynyuk also represents the company "DCs Kvadrat," which is already 15 years old. She is engaged in consulting and design of data centers.

2021: Creation of the company and the start of construction of a data center in the Primorsky Territory

In February 2021, the Kay Point company was founded, which a month later agreed with JSC Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (KRDV) on the construction of a data center on the territory of advanced development (TOP) Nadezhdinskaya in Primorsky Krai.

The founder of the company is Evgeny Virzer. He worked in "," To cheek supervised the construction of the data center. Sberbank He is also a co-founder of the company, Free Engineering Technologies (API) whose specialties include complex technological facilities saturated with engineering systems (energy DPCs centers, refrigeration centers), design with the full use of BIM technologies, construction of engineering systems, communication and safety systems.
