2024: The family of the ex-head physician and accountant of the hospital in Tuva was given real terms for the theft of 25 million rubles

On June 26, 2024, the Kyzyl City Court issued a verdict in a criminal case on large-scale embezzlement of budget funds in the healthcare sector of the Republic of Tuva. The former chief physician of the Kyzyl Central Skin and Venereological Hospital, his wife and the chief accountant of the institution received real terms of imprisonment for fraud on an especially large scale.

According to TASS, the court found six local residents guilty of embezzlement of more than 25 million rubles from the budget of a medical institution. The criminal scheme operated from the end of 2015 to February 2017 and consisted in the conclusion of fictitious contracts for the supply of medicines, consumable medicines and soft equipment.

The ex-head physician was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison in a general regime colony with a fine of 850 thousand rubles. His wife received the most severe punishment - 5 years and 6 months in a general regime colony with a similar fine. The chief accountant of the hospital will spend 3 years and 6 months in prison, also paying a fine of 850 thousand rubles.

The rest of the defendants in the case, including the daughter of the head physician, pharmacist and individual entrepreneur, received suspended sentences from 2 to 2.5 years with fines from 250 to 500 thousand rubles.

To ensure compensation for damage caused to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tuva, the property of the convicts was seized for a total of 9.8 million rubles. The court ruled to keep the arrest for execution.

The Kyzyl Central Skin and Venereological Hospital, founded in 1975, is one of the largest medical institutions in the republic. A new clinic for 300 visits per shift was opened at the hospital, which significantly expanded the possibilities of providing medical care to the population.

The verdict of the court by the beginning of July 2024 has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed by the parties. This case has become one of the most resonant cases of corruption in the healthcare sector of the Republic of Tuva in recent years. [1]
