2023: Charge four doctors for patient's death after blood transfusion

On May 12, 2023, the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Primorsky Territory announced the completion of the investigation of the criminal case against four doctors of the Lesozavodskaya Central City Hospital. They are accused of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence, due to improper performance by a person of his professional duties).

According to the investigation, on June 19, 2021, as a result of the consistent actions of anesthesiologists-resuscitators, a doctor of clinical laboratory diagnostics and a surgeon in a medical institution, a 50-year-old patient died. The patient was transfused with blood components incompatible with his blood type. According to the conclusions of the commission of experts, the death of the victim occurred due to the shortcomings of the provision of medical care to the defendants, as a result, complications arose, and death occurred, the press service of the regional department of the TFR reported.

They also added that the investigation collected a sufficient evidence base, in connection with which the criminal case was sent to the court for consideration on the merits. At the same time, the names of the accused in the department are not disclosed.

By May 2023, the Lesozavodskaya Central City Hospital includes an outpatient and polyclinic unit and inpatient departments with 175 beds, as well as 16 feldsher-obstetric points and one medical outpatient clinic.[1]
