2023: Using AI to curb arms supplies to Russia
On July 19, 2023, it became known that British spies are using artificial intelligence to prevent the supply of weapons to Russia.
According to the Associated Press, British foreign intelligence chief MI6 Richard Moore spoke about the new method. According to him, intelligence officers combine their skills with AI and big data to identify and suppress arms shipments to Russia for use in the current geopolitical situation. At the same time, Moore believes that artificial intelligence systems simultaneously pose a "huge potential asset" and a "serious threat." The head of MI6 believes that Western intelligence agencies will increasingly have to focus on tracking the malicious use of AI by hostile states.
However, Moore stressed that AI will not be able to replace professional spies. In his opinion, the "human factor" will remain decisive in an era of rapidly developing machine learning, and the "unique capabilities of agents in the right places" will become even more important. Spies, according to the MI6 chief, are capable of "influencing decisions within a government or terrorist group."
As AI scours the ocean of available information, it will be even more valuable to catch secrets that lie beyond the reach of neural networks, "Moore said. |
A significant problem related to AI, the head of the British special services considers the possibility of creating deepfakes, spreading fake news and disinformation.
Data control is vital to national sovereignty. I think we will increasingly be tasked with obtaining evidence that hostile states are using AI in a destructive, reckless and unethical way, "Moore concluded.[1] |
