2018: Creation of college
In October, 2018 the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announced creation of new college which will specialize in artificial intelligence. Investments into the project will make $1 billion.
The new educational institution will be called MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing — in honor of the CEO of Blackstone Group investment company Stephen Schwarzman who will offer to AI college about 300 million $ $350 million investments MIT attracted, and "the highest administration of MIT is going to attract further financing actively".
Means will go for creation of 50 new positions in the faculties connected with computer disciplines and a grant for students. Training, and researches will be tasks of college both.
The management of the university considers that measures for opposition to uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence are necessary. These measures which will be undertaken within MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing, will include support of in-depth cross-disciplinary studies both perspectives of use of AI, and the problems of the ethical plan connected with it — up to reorganization of the internal organization of all institute around the project.
The president of MIT Raphael Rif told in an interview of The New York Times that is going to train students who can integrate modern computer technologies with such sciences as biology, chemistry, political science, etc.
According to the Reef, the college will provide knowledge of how to use AI in any sphere and also will help to learn to estimate a contribution to science.
The college with the emphasis on artificial intelligence will be open in September, 2019. The construction of the new building for educational institution will be completed in 2022.[1]
