2018: Adobe purchased Magento for $1.68 billion
On May 21, 2018 Adobe announced acquisition of Magento for $1.68 billion. This transaction will allow the buyer to compete with market leaders of e-commerce of Salesforce.com and Oracle better.
According to the statement of Adobe, the company, having absorbed Magento, will be able to create an end-to-end system for development of Digital Signage, online stores and other technologies for online clients. Also Adobe will get access to clients of Magento among large and medium business.
It is going to close the transaction in the third quarter 2018, at first regulators should approve it. The CEO of Magento Mark Lavelle will remain in the company which will join the division of Experience Cloud specializing in products in the field of analytics, advertizing and marketing. Lavelle will report directly to the vice president and the general manager of department of digital experience of Adobe Brad Rencher.
It is expected that Magento will become for Adobe the instrument of e-commerce and ordering of orders of physical and digital goods of the company. The solution Cloud Magento Commerce will allow to integrate commercial products into a cloud of Adobe Experience Cloud, thereby obespechivav a single platform which will service clients of b2b and b2c worldwide.
As notes the Bloomberg agency, Adobe aims to diversify business long ago outside the products intended for processing of digital media content which made the company by one of the world's largest software makers.
The transaction with Magento became for Adobe the largest acquisition since 2009 when the software developer for business optimization of Omniture for $1.8 billion was absorbed. The largest purchase is dated 2005: then Adobe included Macromedia company for $3.4 billion[1]
