2016: Merck starts in Russia the global scientific educational program of SPARK for children

In March, 2016 Merck, the scientific and technology company in the field of health care, Life sayns and hi-tech materials, announced start of the global volunteer SPARK program in Russia. Nearly 19,000 employees Life of Sayns of division of the company take part in activities for promoting of natural sciences worldwide.

"It is very important to acquaint school students with sciences and technologies as soon as possible to kindle in them curiosity and to inspire on knowledge of the world around, - said Batra, the president and the chief executive of division Will fish Life of Sayns of Merck. - We want to carry away young people the professions connected with scientific research that they could answer the most difficult calls facing future generations".

According to the research conducted by Harris Interactive company in the USA, the school students aged up to 14 years who became interested in scientific disciplines, most likely, will continue the career in the respective areas. Nearly four of five students who are trained on natural-science and engineering specialties, reported that they selected the future profession from average or even elementary school.

Within start of SPARK in Russia the staff of Merck Life of Sayns conducted two open lessons of experimental chemistry for first graders of boarding school Intellectual. During the occupations children could feel the molecular perfumers creating new aromas on the basis of extracts of essential oils. Together with the staff of Merck they learned what defines a substance smell, learned to use Pasteur's pipettes and also studied the principle of separation of mixes in the centrifuge.

Actions of SPARK will take place during the whole year. Within the program of Merck develops cooperation with the educational and scientific organizations and also Curiosity Lab - the program of the scientific and practical informative occupations and master classes focused on children of school age will start an initiative. Participants of the program will be able to participate in experiments which results will receive the real application in practice, for example, in the field of DNA extraction.
