Startup Morf3D was founded in 2015 and mainly produces parts for satellites using 3D printing. Using innovative additive design and analytical software tools, Morf3D accelerates the development of solutions to achieve fully optimized functional structures and process building for leading aerospace customers. One of Morf3D's customers is Boeing, which was also an investor in the company. Morf3D cooperates with other American and European aerospace companies (by April 2021).

History

2021: Nikon bought Morf3D for $91 million

In early April 2021, Japanese photographic equipment manufacturer Nikon announced the acquisition of a controlling stake in the American aerospace solutions developer Morf3D. The transaction is estimated at $91 million.

Through the acquisition of Morf3D, Nikon will be able to directly supply parts for small satellites. According to Nikkei Asia, the company won a seat on the board of directors of Morf3D. Nikon specialists intend to join the Morf3D team as soon as possible to establish business processes.

Nikon acquired Morf3D for $91 million

For components of small satellites, customers impose such requirements as strength, lightness, minimum number of joints by welding or bolts. Nikon's optical equipment for the aerospace industry meets these characteristics. The technology for releasing parts is similar to 3D printing. The startup plans to introduce this technology into future Morf3D products.

Morf3D CEO Ivan Madera noted:
