2023: RUB 1.75 bln from FRP to start production of components for electric buses
The Industrial Development Fund (FRP) provided a preferential loan in the amount of 1.75 billion rubles to the Murom Machine-Building Plant to launch the production of components for electric buses. This became known on December 11, 2023.
According to Kommersant, the total project budget is 2.2 billion rubles. It involves the production of electric port axles, steering racks and tractor transmissions. In the production of components, mainly Russian raw materials will be used, the localization level will be up to 94%, depending on the product. 75 jobs will be created in the new workshop.
Expert Dmitry Babansky from SBS, in a conversation with the newspaper, called electric portal bridges an important component for electric buses and trolleybuses, which converts electric energy into mechanical energy and transmits torque to the wheels. It includes, among other things, an electric motor, inverters and a bearing unit.
Before the imposition of sanctions in 2022, electric buses were equipped with portal bridges of the German ZF. As Autoreview wrote, then bridges of the Chinese brand HanDe began to be installed in the KamAZ electric bus. However, KamAZ, with the involvement of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, developed its own electric portal bridge for electric buses. It was KamAZ that transferred it "for the production of a pilot industrial batch in Murom," the company told the publication.
The company "Bakulin Motors Group" (brand "Volgabas") said that the group is interested in cooperation with the Murom Machine-Building Plant. The company explained that by December 11, 2023, "technical parameters were agreed and prototypes of electric portal bridges for prototypes of electric buses were ordered," adding that their "tests have not yet been."
According to Dmitry Babansky, the project prospects depend on the production economy and the final cost of the product, since the positive effect of a short logistics shoulder can be offset by a small production volume.[1]
