2023: Receiving a grant to improve air defense systems to protect against drones after another drone attack

Moscow has allocated a grant to the research and production association (NPO) Almaz named after Academician A.A. Raspletin to improve air defense systems, including for protection against drones. The capital's mayor's office announced this on July 4, 2023 - the day of the next drone attack on Moscow.

The Moscow government has allocated a grant to NPO Almaz to improve air defense systems, taking into account current challenges and threats, according to the official website of the mayor of Moscow. The corresponding decree at a meeting of the Presidium of the Government of Moscow was signed by the capital's mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The money allocated from the city budget will be directed to improving the means of detecting low-altitude targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles. It is assumed that improving the airspace monitoring system will increase the safety of the population and infrastructure facilities in the Moscow region.

On the morning of July 4, 2023, New Moscow and the Moscow Region were once again attacked by drones. The attack was repulsed by air defense forces, all the detected drones were eliminated, Sobyanin said. No one was hurt. For security reasons, some flights from Vnukovo airport were redirected, later restrictions on flights near Vnukovo were canceled.

The Ministry of Defense reported that New Moscow and the Moscow region tried to attack five drones, four of them were shot down by air defense systems on the territory of New Moscow, another was suppressed by electronic warfare and fell in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region. According to RIA Novosti and TASS, two drones were shot down in the village of Valuevo near Vnukovo. Another drone was hit near Kubinka and fell on the territory of a military facility. TASS also reported the fall of a drone in the Kaluga region.

The Kremlin, answering the question whether the authorities managed to increase the level of security of the capital, said that the drones attacking the Moscow region "were destroyed using the appropriate system."[1]
