2025: BAZ Truck Production Launch
In February 2025, it became known that the first assembly of heavy BAZ trucks was launched in St. Petersburg. Investments in the project amounted to ₽12,5 billion, the company said. The production of equipment was organized at the facilities of Obukhov Plant JSC, which is part of the Almaz-Antey East Kazakhstan concern.
According to the press service of BAZ, the general director of Romanov JSC Dmitry Grechukhin said that the new model was developed taking into account modern technologies. The design of trucks is based on a modular platform that provides high cross-country ability. He added that transport axes are created on the basis of technologies used in military equipment. According to him, the truck surpasses its foreign counterparts in off-road characteristics, including Volvo and Mercedes.
In St. Petersburg, theThe decision to create a truck was made in 2019. In 2022, Obukhovsky Zavod JSC began developing a model in a specially created engineering center. In 2023, the first prototype was assembled. In 2024, the machine passed certification tests confirming compliance with Russian standards.
According to the company, full-scale production of cars is scheduled for mid-2025. In the first year, it is planned to assemble 200 units, and by 2027 the volume of production should reach 2 thousand cars per year. Grechukhin said the trucks are designed to replace foreign models previously supplied to the Russian market. He noted that BAZ has an independent suspension that provides improved off-road performance in difficult climatic conditions.
BAZ production is part of the state program for the development of domestic automotive industry. The new equipment will be used in both the civilian and military sectors. The plant has the necessary capacity to produce trucks adapted to Russian operating conditions.[1]

Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said earlier in 2023 that it is expected that the production of the E-Neva electric crossover developed by Almaz-Antey could begin at the former Toyota site in 2026.
The E-Neva electric crossover is built on the original platform developed by the Obukhov plant. The power plant of the prototype consists of two electric motors with a total power of 435 hp. and 824 N·m of torque. The maximum speed is limited by electronics at around 197 km/h. It is also planned to create a hydrogen version and a sequential hybrid.
In addition, as Mikhail Garter noted in an interview with RIA Novosti, it is planned to master the production of L-type electric microcar at a plant in St. Petersburg. The presentation of the novelty will be held May 25-26, 2023.
The microcar will receive fast-changing Russian-made batteries, thanks to which the range will be 183 km per charge. The maximum speed is 90 km/h. The start of production is scheduled for 2024.[2]
