History
2022: Recommendation to Russian clients to transfer domains to other providers and stop working with them
In March 2022, amid a special operation of Russia in Ukraine, Namecheap recommended that customers from Russia transfer domains to other providers until March 22, 2022. The company sent letters to users from Russia in which it announced the termination of work with them.
2020: Second place among registrars in the number of managed domain names
On August 10, 2020, it became known that Namecheap became the second largest domain registrar among ICANN accredited by the number of managed domain names. This was announced on Twitter by the head of the company Richard Kirkendell. Thus, Namecheap bypassed another major registrar, Tucows. According to the resource RegistrarOwl.com as of August 7, Tucows managed 10,088,833 domain names, and the number of domains managed by Namecheap was 10,116,123.
"Now we have to take another peak, and we are already moving towards it," wrote Richard Kirkendell. |
However, Namecheap is still extremely far from this peak. As you know, the first number in the list of the largest registrars is GoDaddy. As the blog Domain Investing recalls, referring to all the same data RegistrarOwl.com, 62,889,526 domain names are managed by GoDaddy at the beginning of August 2020.[1]
