2022: Launch of a $400 million venture fund to invest in IT companies
On February 3, 2022, Nokia announced the creation of a $400 million Fund V venture fund, which will focus on financing promising companies in growth. NGP Capital became a partner of the Finnish telecom equipment manufacturer in this project.
Targeted investments will be evaluated by product compliance to the market, division cost-effectiveness and technology leadership. In addition, companies will be evaluated against key indicators to support progress from an environmental, social and managerial point of view.
Fund V will create value for Nokia by mastering strategic areas and generating financial returns on investments, following the venture capital model that NGP Capital has been using for Nokia since 2005. The fund is part of the company's broader innovation initiatives, providing understanding and expansion to additional markets and ecosystems in relation to the core business. This activity is carried out in tandem with internal research and incubation initiatives of the company, including Nokia Bell Labs.
The drive for innovation is an integral part of Nokia's strategy. Sustainable technology leadership requires us to anticipate, shape and invest in the following technology windows. Our relationship with NGP provides a powerful channel for exploring external opportunities that contribute to the implementation of the Nokia concept in the 5G era and beyond, "said Nishant Batra, Director of Strategy and Technology. |
NGP Capital has Nokia as its sole investor. This is the fifth fund that NGP Capital manages for Nokia, and the total amount of raised but not invested capital by February 2022 is more than $550 million. Total liabilities since inception more than $1.6 billion.[1]
