2025: Recovery of ₽1,3 billion in favor of the Russian subsidiary Google
In February 2025, the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal confirmed the decision of the lower instance to recover about ₽1,3 billion from the Okkam Um advertising agency in favor of Google LLC, the Russian division of Google. The interests of the company in court were represented by the bankruptcy trustee Valery Talyarovsky.
According to Prime, the Court of Appeal rejected the defendant's complaint against the decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court, adopted in October 2024. After that, the court order entered into legal force. More than ₽1,1 billion of the main debt on payment for advertising services and about ₽177 million percent were collected from the Okkam Um agency.
The lawsuit was originally filed in April 2024. The bankruptcy trustee of Google LLC twice appealed to the court of first instance with a request to take interim measures in the form of the arrest of the defendant's funds in accounts with Russian banks, but received refusals. In September 2024, the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal granted Talyarovsky's complaint and took the requested interim measures.
Until 2022, the Okkam Um advertising agency was known as Dentsu Russia and was part of the Japanese advertising holding Dentsu. In 2022, the Japanese company transferred the Russian asset to local top managers.
This is not the first time that a large debt has been recovered by a Russian subsidiary of Google from advertising agencies. In 2024, the company filed a series of claims for debt collection under advertising services contracts. The largest debt - about ₽1,5 billion - was collected from Emdzhik LLC, which owns the advertising agency MGCom. The court of first instance recovered about ₽947 million from Amnet LLC.
The Moscow Arbitration Court in October 2023 declared Google LLC bankrupt and opened bankruptcy proceedings. The initial bankruptcy procedure was introduced in November 2022 at the company's own request. According to the bankruptcy trustee Valery Talyarovsky, the register of claims of creditors of Google LLC includes claims of more than 1200 creditors totaling more than ₽23,3 billion[1]
