2024: Indid invested in Russian developer of access rights management system

Indid, a Russian developer of a set of products in the field of identity infrastructure security, announced on October 9 an investment in Octopus Identity (legal entity Aidentica LLC). Its development - the Octopus IdM identity infrastructure management system - will become part of the Indid product ecosystem, but the companies will remain independent. At the same time, Indid received a 13% stake in Identity.

According to Yakov Fishelev, co-founder of Octopus Identity, the team that developed the product was previously involved in the implementation of One Identity, an American manufacturer of identity infrastructure management tools. In total, this team had about 60 Russian clients.

Yakov Fishelev explains the place of Octopus Identity products in the Indid ecosystem

When One Identity left Russian customers two years ago, the team decided to repeat the main functionality of the identity management system, but already on a new technological base - in the form of microservices and containers. The developers managed to solve the problem. By October 2024, Octopus IdM already has five customers using the domestic product.

At its core, Octopus IdM is a full-fledged lifecycle management tool for access rights within complex information systems. It allows you to ensure the management of employee accounts and access rights to the information systems of the organization, and already on the modern technological stack.

The product is integrated with the company's Business Process Management System (BPMS), which ensures the principle of minimizing authorizations for each employee action. The Octopus IdM, using system log analysis, can automatically determine the access rights for each activity in the business process and temporarily give the employee the access rights he needs. When the process moves to the next stage, all access rights that are associated with it are revoked and new ones are issued in accordance with the business process.

Octopus IdM also uses a role-based authorization model, but the system tries to determine the required set of rights as accurately as possible for each role. In addition, the decision controls how the issued access rights are used and can determine the abnormal behavior of employees or its deviation from the usual behavior. This information is transmitted to the security service for response.

The product fits well with Indid's comprehensive identity infrastructure protection system. If the products of the latter are focused on the authentication process (checking the user identity of the declared identifier), then the Octopus Identity solution ensures their authorization (determines the user's powers in the system).

Through partnership, Indid products such as Access Manager, Privileged Access Manager (PAM), Certificate Manager (ITDR), and Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) are assembled into a comprehensive identification infrastructure protection solution.

This is a strategic partnership, - clarified TAdviser Yakov Fishelev. - Indid has invested in Octopus, and this is very important for us as we want to focus on developing key technologies. Indid is already a large company with a good business infrastructure. It has employees who are engaged in marketing, legal and financial processing of transactions and other things, and with an understanding of our topic, and not just financiers from the outside. Indida itself is convenient, because the company does not make IdM on its own, which is quite difficult.
