2021: Motorola bought Openpath Security

In early July 2021, Motorola Solutions announced the acquisition of Openpath Security, a cloud-based mobile access management provider. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Since its launch in 2018, Openpath has been one of the fastest growing providers of access control in the market and even received an investment of $36 million in 2020 from Allegion Ventures, the corporate venture capital fund of Allegion's industrial enterprise.

This deal is the latest in a series of Motorola acquisitions in recent years aimed at strengthening its position in the physical security market, which began in early 2018, when the company bought Canadian video surveillance software and equipment manufacturer Avigilon for about $1 billion. Subsequently, a year later, the company added WatchGuard and VaaS International to its portfolio. In the summer of 2020, Motorola acquired Pelco for $110 million.

Motorola said it plans to complete the acquisition of Openpath by the end of July 2021.[1]
