Parallels Research is 100% subsidiary of Parallels. The company is a resident Skolkovo and in equal proportions is financed by Parallels company and Skolkovo Foundation (on 150 million rubles a year from each party).

Project Objective

Project objective – development of the software platform allowing to create effective private and public "clouds" with significantly lower operating costs than at the existing technologies. The software created within the project will be demanded during creation of DPCs of telecommunication companies, service providers, large operators solutions SaaS. As a result clients of such providers will be able to consume information technologies as services via the Internet, having an opportunity to instantly increase required capacities, to automatically connect new services, it is safe to store all data in "cloud" and to get access to them from any device. The platform will also be applicable for creation of highly effective IT systems of new generation of large corporate clients – "private clouds".

"At the beginning of the way in the late nineties the Parallels company was a participant of the program of stimulation of startups. But then it was the program deployed by Singapore. Today the similar activity is carried out by Russia, offering support of research activities for development of the technologies which already proved in global markets, - the founder of Parallels and the member of the supervisory board of Parallels Research Belousov Sergey says. – We are sure that purposeful R&D-усилия, increase in number of jobs of developers based on the Parallels Research center, involvement of the best world specialists in the field of cloud-computing will allow to provide leadership of Russia in cloud computing".

History

2011

In March, 2011 Parallels Research, child structure of Parallels company, was among residents of the innovation center "Skolkovo". As the resident Skolkovo the Parallels Research center will perform research activities for the directions of container virtualization and other technologies of cloud computing. Cooperation with the innovation center "Skolkovo" will accelerate carrying out research work in the field of the container virtualization and cloud-calculations performed within Parallels activity basic.

In May, 2011 the company received 150 million rubles from Skolkovo Foundation on research and development in the field of "cloud" calculations. A project objective – development of the software platform allowing to create effective private and public "clouds" with significantly lower operating costs than at the existing technologies. The platform integrates technologies of virtualization, automation, data warehouses and computer networks in a single system based on the existing technologies of Parallels parent company and new technologies which will be developed in the Parallels Research center. The software created within the project will be demanded during creation of DPC of telecommunication companies, service providers, large operators SaaS of solutions. As a result clients of such providers will be able to consume information technologies as services via the Internet, having an opportunity to instantly increase required capacities, to automatically connect new services, it is safe to store all data in "cloud" and to get access to them from any device. The platform will also be applicable for creation of highly effective IT systems of new generation of large corporate clients – "private clouds".

The scheme of financing – a grant – is selected by Skolkovo Foundation. Investments into Parallels Research are distributed in a proportion 50/50 between Parallels and Skolkovo. Thus, the total volume of investments in the project will be 300 million rubles in the first year. On these means it is going to employ about 140 engineers of software, to buy the necessary equipment for carrying out research and development that will accelerate development of the platform. At the end of the researches the Parallels company having more than 10-year work experience with "cloud" calculations in 120 countries of the world will be engaged in commercialization of developments. Benefits from work of the center for the state – export growth of the ready software, creation of new jobs in the hi-tech sphere, accumulation of domestic competence of the advanced information technology field - in the field of "cloud" calculations. In the long term work of the center will provide repeated straight lines and indirect tax revenues in the budget, the raised external funds. It is expected that investments into the project will be returned by 2015 though the Skolkovo Foundation does not set a direct task of a refund for residents.

  • * on July 5, 2011 it is announced Pavel Yershov's appointment to a position of the CEO of Parallels Research. The research center is a resident Skolkovo and is engaged in development of a cloud platform based on the existing technologies of parent company.

At the beginning of 2011 Yershov passed from Microsoft into Parallels to a position of the president of the company in emerging markets of Russia, the CIS countries, the Middle East and Africa. Now in addition to his main position he will supervise Parallels Research activity.

Mister Yershov should solve in short terms several problems at once. First, to create strong team of the research center for development of the developed Parallels of technologies. The command will consist of the current staff of Parallels which are directly engaged in developments of cloud computing and also the recruited third-party specialists (up to 140 employees). Secondly, to promote process of commercialization of developments that is important for ensuring their further development. And thirdly, already by the end of 2011 to provide preliminary results of work. Will depend on success of work whether the additional grant for the second year of researches in the field of cloud computing will receive in 2012 Parallels Research.
