2023: Building a Company
In mid-October 2023, it became known that Foxconn, one of the world's largest contract electronics manufacturers, had formed a subsidiary called Pearl. This enterprise will be engaged in the implementation of initiatives in the space sector.
It is noted that Foxconn is actively investing in new generation communication technologies and applications, such as 6G services, artificial intelligence and satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Foxconn CEO Liu Young-Way said the company is "trying to grow from a manufacturing services organization to a platform solutions corporation."
Among the promising areas of activity, the head of Foxconn named smart cities and smart production based on AI. At the same time, the launch of the first spacecraft is being prepared. This LEO satellite is planned to be launched aboard the SpaceX rocket in November 2023. Foxconn emphasizes that the device will help in the development of next-generation communication technologies - the so-called Beyond 5G solutions . The company also notes that it intends to continue the development of both ground and space communications.
In the AI segment, Foxconn announced a collaboration with Nvidia to deploy a new type of data center - the so-called artificial intelligence factories. The key components of such sites will be accelerators and specialized Nvidia software. Data centers are planned to be used to keep complex, resource-intensive AI-related applications running. This, for example, is the processing of huge streams of information from robotic electric vehicles: AI algorithms will make autopilot smarter and more efficient. In addition, new data centers will be able to serve services based on generative AI.[1]
