Mastertel and MTT use Canadian billing with Ukrainian technical support

As it became known to TAdviser, the largest Russian users of the foreign BSS platform PortaOne consider the risks of software failure insignificant. A source familiar with the situation told TAdviser that back in March, the Canadian company PortaOne left Russia and stopped providing technical support services to Russian operators. PortaOne business was created by immigrants from Ukraine, the company is actively working in the CIS market. The company conducted sales in Russia from the Canadian office, and technical support was provided by Ukrainian specialists.

According to the source, billing and operator services based on the PortaOne solution continue to work, but in the current situation there are risks of malicious interference in the software. According to the source, the largest users of the solutions of the Canadian developer in Russia are IP operators MTT and Mastertel. The interlocutor of TAdviser notes that small Russian IP operators have significantly higher risks, since large Russian companies use on-premium versions of products, and small ones use cloud ones.

MTT has been using the PortaOne solution since 2012 (more here [1]), as the source said, not only billing works on the basis of the BSS platform, but also a number of services have been deployed. Moreover, according to the source, after the purchase of the MTT business by MTS, the operator is considering the possibility of migration to another OSS/BSS platform.

MTT itself believes that the departure of the Canadian vendor will not affect the company's activities in any way.

MTT has a sufficient safety margin to ensure uninterrupted quality of services in full, despite any changes in the situation. A change in software suppliers or hardware has happened before, our users did not feel it in any way. If necessary, we will provide our customers with seamless switching of services while maintaining the previous settings, - commented TAdviser in the MTT press service.

Vitaly Ezopov, CEO of another major "alternative" operator Mastertel, in a conversation with TAdviser, also said that the departure of the Canadian vendor from the Russian market would not affect the company's business in any way.

We use the BSS platform only in the carrier business, its share is negligible in the total volume of our services. In addition, while everything works properly. But even if there are attempts to disrupt the software, we will cope with this, and customers will not notice anything. Since February, there have already been several attempts to remotely intervene in the operation of our systems, we successfully repulsed all attacks, "Vitaly Yezopov told TAdviser.

A TAdviser source said that in March, when PortaOne announced its withdrawal from the Russian market, small operators began to look for an alternative, but the solutions they offered were either more expensive or less functional. Therefore, they continued to use the services of a Canadian vendor at their own peril and risk. At the same time, according to him, if PortaOne disables access to cloud solutions, then small domestic IP operators will have to urgently migrate to other software, despite the loss of functionality.
