Company to launch satellites to combat space debris

In October 2021, it became known that the space company Privateer Space, founded by Steve Wozniak and Alex Fielding, will launch satellites into orbit to create a debris map.

According to TechCrunch, the activities of Privateer Space will fully begin in February 2022 with the launch of satellites into Earth orbit, with the help of which detailed maps will be created for the search for space debris. The main goal of the company is to help other enterprises effectively combat space debris.

The launch of the first Pono 1 satellite is expected to be carried out on February 11, 2022, the second satellite called Pono 2 - at the end of April 2022. The size of the device is just over 15 cm in diameter, it will be equipped with 42 sensors, 30 of which will be non-optic cameras, and the remaining 12 - optical cameras. Neoptic sensors will have an accuracy of up to 4 microns. According to Fielding, the satellite body will be printed on a 3D printer, and carbon fiber will be used as the material for its production. The rigidity of the structure will be similar to titanium products, Pono-1 will only work for four months, after which the satellite will be withdrawn from orbit and sent back to the Earth's atmosphere. Privateer Space has already selected a partner for launches and has received all the necessary permissions.

Privateer Space is already collaborating with Astroscale, a startup that is engaged in orbital logistics and is developing a satellite for cleaning space debris. According to Fielding, abandoning the development of Google Maps of space can be not just negligence, but can have fatal consequences, in particular, accidents involving humans in orbit in space are inevitable.[1]

Creating a Company

September 13, 2021 it became known about the creation of a private space company Privateer Space. This is a joint project between SoundSteve Wozniak co-founder and Ripcord robotics executive Alex Fielding.

Earlier, Steve Wozniak said that the development of space tourism will depend, in particular, on how many people can afford such a trip.

I would like a lot of people and companies to work to make space travel available. If I could get on a ship and fly to Mars with a one-way ticket, I would do it, "he said.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak created a space company

According to Wozniak, by mid-September 2021, Privateer Space is working to ensure that space is safe and accessible to all mankind. Wozniak promised that the company would not look like others. The announcement says that "this is not a race or competition," which refers to the era of the Cold War or the more modern "space race of billionaires."

The decision of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak to create his own space startup is due to the desire to make money on a new gold rush in space, cosmonautics expert Andrei Ionin told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

In the 2000s, several billionaires from other industries became interested in space at once. For example, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos created Blue Origin in 2000, and Virgin Servicefounder Richard Branson established Virgin Galactic in 2004. Both companies want to launch people and scientific experiments into suborbital space and have achieved some success in this: Branson and Bezos rolled through their devices this summer. The space company also has Elon Musk, who began his journey to the top of the list of the richest people in the world with Zip2 and PayPal.[2][3]
