2024: How telephone scammers lured 2.7 million rubles from the former press secretary of the Moscow Puppet Theater. Obraztsov

The former press secretary of the Obraztsov Moscow Puppet Theater became a victim of telephone fraud, losing ₽2,7 million. This became known in September 2024. The criminals, posing as the director of the theater and FSB officers, deceived the woman and received a large sum of money. The incident occurred within a few days, when the victim was at a dacha in the Moscow region.

According to Izvestia, it all started with a message on Telegram on behalf of Elena Bulukova, the director of the theater. The woman was informed that she would soon be contacted by the "curator of the theater from the FSB" on countering terrorism and extremism. After some time, a man really called her, who said that a payment of ₽660 thousand had allegedly passed from her bank account in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After that, another "FSB and Rosfinmonitoring officer" got in touch, who explained that to protect the funds, you need to withdraw money from the account.

Believing the fraudsters, the woman withdrew ₽300 thousand and added ₽500 thousand of her personal savings to them. She tried to transfer the amount through the Yandex Taxi driver, but he refused. Then she went to the nearest settlement and transferred part of the money to the scammers. The next day, September 13, 2024, while in Moscow, she removed and allegedly transferred another $2 thousand, €4 thousand and ₽150 thousand for "verification by Rosfinmonitoring." Soon, the "FSB officer" forced her to transfer an additional ₽1,2 million.

On September 15, 2024, the woman decided to personally verify the information and went to the FSB building on the Kuznetsk bridge. At the checkpoint, she told the employee about what had happened. She was recommended to contact the police with a written statement. In September 2024, law enforcement agencies are engaged in identifying the identities of fraudsters and clarifying all the details of what happened.[1]
