Faculties

For 2020 in St. John the Evangelist's RPU 3 faculties function: psychology, philosophical and theological, social and humanitarian on which training in the enlarged groups of the directions of preparation according to federal state educational standards of the higher education is conducted.

The university - cofounder of business school Mirbis

For June, 2020, the Russian orthodox university is a cofounder of the Moscow international higher school of business of MIRBIS.

History

2019: Return to the name Russian orthodox university

Since January 9, 2019 the initial name – Autonomous nonprofit organization of the higher education "Russian orthodox university of Saint John the Evangelist" (ANO VO "St. John the Evangelist's RPU") was returned to university.

2010: Renaming into Orthodox institute. The abbot Pyotr (Yeremeyev) is appointed the rector

By 2010 the university replaced the name received at registration and began to be called Autonomous nonprofit organization of Higher education "Orthodox Institute of Saint John the Evangelist".

Since May, 2010 the rector of the Russian orthodox university of Saint John the Evangelist is the abbot Pyotr (Yeremeyev).

For many years author's theological and philosophical disciplines courses in university are given the Bishop of Moravia Anthony – the representative of the Patriarch Serbian at the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, the archpriest Lev Shikhlyarov.

2005: Department of church journalism is created

Training of philologists and historians in university was performed within the relevant faculties. In 2005 based on philological faculty department of church journalism was created. The archpriest Vladimir Vigilyansky, professor Alexey Sergeyevich Georgiyevsky were his deans. Journalism courses were given by teachers of Lomonosov Moscow State University: professor Louise Grigoryevna Svitich, associate professor Galina Viktorovna Lazutina, associate professor Andrey Vadimovich Raskin, Vadim Evgenyevich Styazhkin. Preparation and retraining of journalists is performed today by department of philology and journalism of the University.

2002: Opening of faculty of psychology

In 2002 based on experience of teaching courses of Christian orthodox anthropology and psychology in the university the unique faculty of psychology in the Russian higher education system was open. The Christian psychologist archpriest Andrey Lorgus became its founder. The faculty of orthodox psychology began to perform preparation on state standards with profound studying of Christian divinity, ascetic experience of orthodox church, psychological school MSU and practical orthodox psychotherapy.

1995: Creation of faculty of economy

Creation in 1995 of faculty of economy became an important step to expansion of a circle of specialties. Work on creation of new faculty was headed by Eduard Vladimirovich Afanasyev. The faculty began to train orthodox economists of a wide profile in National economy.

1992: Creation of the university

Autonomous nonprofit organization of the higher education "Russian orthodox university of Saint John the Evangelist" was founded on blessing of the Most Saint Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II in 1992, registered in 1993. The Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kirill, later the patriarch of Russian Orthodox Church was among initiators of creation of the university. The university was planned as the educational and research platform for training of specialists in the different knowledge domains implanted in tradition of Russian Orthodox Church.

(From 1992 to 2010) professor, the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education, the chairman of Department of religious education and a catechization of the Moscow Patriarchy archimandrite Ioann (Ekonomtsev) was the first rector of the University.

In many respects thanks to efforts of the first dean protodeacon Andrey Kurayev there was a harmonious education system at philosophical and theological faculty. The beginning to development of philosophical, theological and theological specialization here was put by such teachers as the metropolitan Illarion (Alfeev), Nikolay Alekseyevich Fedorov, Alexey Georgiyevich Dunayev, Victor Nikolaevich Trostnikov.
