2022: Investing $25 billion to launch 5G networks in India
At the end of August 2022, the owner of the largest telecom and Internet operator in India, Mukesh Ambani, announced that his holding Reliance Industries would invest 2 trillion rupees or $25 billion in the launch of 5G networks throughout the country.
Reliance Jio Infocomm, the holding's telecommunications division, plans to introduce a ″ autonomous ″ version of the 5G standard, independent of previous generation 4G mobile networks, which will provide a faster connection. Ambani announced this at the annual meeting of shareholders on August 29, reports Bloomberg.
Earlier in the year, India hosted a frequency auction for 5G and Mukesh Ambani became its biggest bidder. Reliance Jio is scheduled to launch 5G this October, and nationwide the technology should be operational by December 2023, Ambani promised. This will connect up to 100 million households to the Internet and speed up the introduction of broadband access services in India, the Indian billionaire emphasized.
Digital freedom is the inalienable right of every Indian. Therefore, 5G cannot remain an exclusive service available only to select people or those living in the largest cities in the country. We plan to expand the coverage area of Jio 5G month after month, - said Ambani. |
During his speech, the Reliance chief did not disclose details about tariff plans for 5G services, but promised that they would be "of the highest quality and availability." According to the billionaire, his company's 5G network will be "the largest and most advanced in the world."
The billionaire stressed that thanks to advanced 5G technology, Reliance Jio will be able to provide new and powerful services with low signal latency, which will provide machine-to-machine interaction, 5G voice communication, edge computing, network segmentation and metaverse development.[1]
