In May 2024, Qatar's Lesha Bank announced the purchase of Bereke Bank, a former subsidiary of Sberbank in Kazakhstan. The transaction value is 65 billion tenge ($146 million). The asset was sold by the Kazakhstani state holding Baiterek.

According to the Qatari holding, the parties entered into a sale and purchase agreement, to which the preconditions apply, which the parties must fulfill to complete the transaction. In particular, we are talking about the receipt by Baiterek of the approval necessary to complete the transaction "from competent regulatory and supervisory authorities."

According to the reports of Baiterek, the holding's income from the purchase of Sberbank Kazakhstan amounted to 30.3 billion tenge.

For our partner bank, this is an opportunity to increase the loan portfolio. We, in turn, receive additional liquidity from this transaction, necessary to meet the needs of our clients - explained Eldar Tenizbayev, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Representative Office of Sberbank .
